After years of tutoring, I finally decided to start this business in hopes of showing children how enjoyable math could be while defying the stigmas that arise with mathematics. Statistics show that 70% percent of children stop understanding math after 2nd grade. It is my mission to change that by all means necessary.
In addition, the pandemic and the lack of support students were receiving at home and school gave me the sign I needed to start my business and fill in the mathematical gaps for both students and parents. With over 8 years of tutoring experience, I decided to officially start a business in July 2020.
As a long-term champion of education leveraging a holistic approach to child well-being, I hold both a bachelor’s degree in Middle School Education and Masters degree in Professional School Counseling from THE South Carolina State and leverage my passion and experience to combat limiting beliefs students have about themselves and mathematics by demonstrating that it can be enjoyable. Tutoring and educating in mathematics is a long-time passion of mine.
My Approach
It all begins with an assessment. It’s not to judge, but to get an understanding of your needs and goals. Maybe you want to test prep help. Or to fill knowledge gaps. Or maybe you have a desire to get ahead of grade level. Whatever it is, we need to know where you’re starting from to chart the path to success.
Foundation
Often, students are unable to grasp new concepts because they don’t have the proper foundation. A lot of my work is providing context and foundational practices before tackling the new concepts. Math is not hard, you just need to know the rules.
Build On it
Once students understand the fundamentals, it’s time to apply the knowledge in new and fun ways. Making math relatable and hands on is a great way to reinforce existing knowledge and introduce new concepts.
